ghd wins…

Yes I’ve seen tons of hair straighteners in stores, yes I’ve heard of the brands such as Remington, Vidal Sassoon, Conair, Babyliss, etc. But one brand wins amongst all these hair straightener and it is none other than ghd. Yes, ghd wins. Ahh ghd…

And when I saw this sometime last week… I was sold.

MAC Holiday ’09 Collection Is Finally Here In Australia

Yes, finally… They have a whole range of products, ranging from brushes kit/set, eyes and lips bags, eyes lips and face kits, and the ones I was waiting for … Mineralized Blushes in Superdupernatural and Conjure Up. Without further adue, here are some of the collection: taken from the Australian MAC website.

Anyway, enough of bombarding you all with the photos… go check it out at the stores and tell me what you think. I’m not sure if I’ll even get any of these, as they totally hiked up the prices =( maybe the blush? maybe the lipgloss? Or none at all? We’ll have to see… and I shall keep you updated.

Don’t get fooled by MAC just because it’s MAC.

MAC Paint Pots Swatch

At first I did this because I couldn’t decide which paint pots I was going to get. I was thinking that they all looked so attractive and the colours were so nice as well that I hesitated on getting oen and walked away with this spotty hand, and went to work. I simply could not decide!!

I must say, these paintpots did not smudge. I rubbed my hand over it few times and it didn’t smudge! Awesome as eyeshadow bases or on its own! SO here are the photos… sorry if the photos don’t give the actual colours justice… they are more pearly in reality. More bold, more striking in colours.

And after a whole day of staring at them… Even though I want them all, I can’t. Do come back to see which ones I ended up getting… and oh those Limited Edition items always make me stop and stare.

Dana Loves Stila…

Why does only Barbie loves Stila? I do too! As of few weeks ago, when I first met Stila eyeshadows, Stila mascara, Stila lipgloss… ahh Stila…

In Australia, or at least in Brisbane, it is currently only available in Mecca Cosmetica. You know what that means… Mecca shouts “expensive!!”

So what about Stila (pronounced STEE-la)?
It was founded in 1994 by a celebrity makeup artist Jeanine Lobell, who was born in Sweden but grew up in Europe.
The name was derived from the Italian word “stilare”, which can mean “to pen”. Apparently they chose the name because they believe every woman’s makeup should be as individual as her own signature.
In 1999 Estee Lauder bought Stila and sold it to Sun Capital Partners, Inc in 2006. As a result, the brand has now become a standard at Sephora. As of Autumn 2007, Stila is now available at Ulta, Sephora and Bloomingdales. And other small boutiques. (note: all overseas stores…)

Its signature look is feminine, fun, fresh and polished. The line comprises of a lot of soft, pearly colours with shimmer, even though there are some matte shades.
Most of the products are packaged in recyclable aluminium or biodegradable paperboard.

So general ideas of what I think of Stila……
Quality-wise: I love! the eyeshadows are soft, pigmented, blendable, you don’t need to try so hard to get the colour off the pan, just gentle light stroke and your eyes pop!

Price-wise: I cry… =’( it’s so expensive… lipglosses AUD$40+, eyeshadows (without the pot) AUD$38, (with the pot) AUD$40, mascaras AUD$40+… I’m hurt, already…

Packaging-wise: Oh I like!! I really do! Even though NARS, MAC, Gorgeous Cosmetics are awesome, Stila wins in terms of packaging for me… at least for now. =] Except the Barbie collection, they look too kiddish or just… doesn’t quite do it for me, and not something I really like to stare at. But apart from the Barbie collection, Stila has something like this!!
Isn’t that pretty? The design… awww… Wait there’s more…
These are not even the complete collection of the brand! I love the floral design on the cases, and even the single eyeshadow pot has this really vintage (ahh, that’s the word I was after)… vintage feel to it, as though something from the French Marie Antoinette era… at least that’s what it feels like to me. These designs are the ones I prefer out of the brand, as they have some other designs with Barbie-like figures or the Barbie herself… Ugh. Like this below…
The colours in those smudgepots are so nice, but the coverpage puts me off… sadly to be honest.

EDIT!!! Omg, you have to see the “Little Black Dress” (the black one) in real life. It is really really super nice. It’s black with purple shimmer, it is, omg I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but it’s SO PRETTYYY!! haha.. ok you have to check it out in real, ok! And let me know what you think…

OMG… wish I were in US right now.. Maybe someone could help me buy… Ah!! Think, think, think… ’cause I don’t think that Stila website ships internationally, does it?
If anyone knows… do let me know please… before the sale ends. =(

I know there would be people out there who would never ever get Stila, but…

Frustrated… by MAC

Ok, I think I’m surely going to pass MAC foundation for now. None of the MAC makeup artists seem to be able to match my skin to the correct shade and I’m now have to go back and return it because I’m scared to use it because I now realise I’m not even sure if it’s the right shade anymore. This is an indication of my Love-Hate relationship with MAC. I love their paint pots (I really do!) and hating the foundations at the moment…

Last time, the girl said I’m a NW25 in Mineralized Satinfinish Liquid Foundation, then another said NC35 or C4 in the Studio Fix Compact, NC30 in Select, and today this girl said I’m a NC25 in MSF because she said this has light reflecting particles that will look darker on the skin when it has settled. Errrr… foundation that changes to a darker colour hours later after application? I don’t need this complication! I want a foundation that stays the same colour and doesn’t tan itself… =_=;;;
Why is it so hard… =(

Should I go for the Studio Fix Compact Powder? Should I not even bother… I’m even unsure about getting the concealer now… due to worrying that it would be the wrong shade… again.

Maybe I should just wait… and keep testing out which foundation shade matches me? What do you think? Let me know…

On a lighter note, I miss my favourite ice cream… =’(
Can you guess what that is already? Think chocolate, rich chocolate… and peanut butter… yuumm!! Yes… it’s Peanut butter and Chocolate ice cream from Baskins Robbins… I’ve missed you!!

I’ve planned: to buy the 88 eyeshadow palettes from Coastal Scents and to finally settle on 1 or 2 brands of skincare for the rest of the year

I want to say to someone special: to all my close friends, I get by because of youse, I thank you for being there and when I need it the most.

What is wrong with my blog? Help!

If you haven’t noticed, something is wrong with my blog and I am trying to fix it but I’m not too sure how. If you noticed, the sidebar with my info, fishes, current favourite item, wishlist and about me section have somehow moved itself to the bottom of the page underneath the blog posts. I have no idea why. If you click Read More however, you would see that these columns would return to its original place. Weird!!

If any of you know what is wrong and how I can solve this, please do let me know. Or if you know that there are some problems with the blogger website, then let me know too… I don’t want my page to look like this!! Help!!

OMG!! The MAC MA made a mistake!! I’m NOT NW25! & NYX is HERE

Ok, I was kind of freaking out because I realised I might have gotten a wrong shade with my Mineralized Satinfinish, remember I got one about a week ago from that first MAC makeover? Yes, it turned out too orangey, too oompa-loompa for me, everyone could see it in the photos… *cries*
So today, I didn’t exactly plan it, but I went to the MAC counter at Chermside, instead of the one in the city, and the MA (makeup artist) said to me “err, you are definitely not an NW25. That’s too orangey, too dark for you, I think you’re definitely an NC. Not NW.” O M G, I could have died right there… hahaha… I know it’s not the end of the world, but you know, when you have spent time and money and effort to find your shade and the one you finally got was the wrong shade… AH!

You know how silly I felt!! Ahh!! Why didn’t I just go with my guts instinct last time and got the NC30 instead of NW25!! So I told her what happened, and how I’ve used 1 pump of the bottle but I think it’s totally the wrong shade and I’m freaking out what to do with the rest of the bottle etc etc… and she was actually really nice!! She told me to bring it in and she said I can exchange it to the correct shade!! By this time, I thought I was already sweating… but then sighed a breath of relief. Phewwww…

I was checking out the concealers and yeah I am definitely going back tomorrow and exchange to a better matching shade. Geeeeezzz…

On a lighter note, I finally found an almost complete set/counter of NYX products!! *happy happy* because I’ve been wanting to try out NYX but there isn’t that many NYX products usually in these stores such as Cosmetics Plus, Groove, and last time I checked only one of the stores in DFO Jindalee stocks NYX. But no worries now, because there is NYX counter in Chermside, just few minutes drive from where I live. Yay!! Here’s a shot I managed to take (as fast as I could by just using my iphone) while the sales assistant was lurking behind me, probably eyeing me wondering why I was taking photo of the NYX display.

Just a quick update of what I’ve purchased recently (apart from those I’ve mentioned previously) and what I can do reviews on in the future.

So I purchased 2 little things from MECCA today, my first purchase at MECCA I must say…
It was just for these 2 magnetic eyeshadow pots so I can fill them myself with the Stila eyeshadow pans I already have… like this:

Alright, so that’s the little collective haul in the past week or so… just as a quick update and as ideas as future reviews…
